Chandragupta

Founder of the Mauryan Throne

The wall that rides at the front — a cavalry bulwark whose shadow shelters every hero beside him.

History

Chandragupta Maurya (c. 340–297 BCE) was the founder of the Mauryan Empire, the first truly centralized power to rise across the Indian subcontinent. Guided by his shrewd mentor Chanakya — author of the Arthashastra — he toppled the Nanda dynasty and, in the turbulent wake of Alexander's eastern campaign, swept through the Indus valley to unite the north under a single crown. His pact with Seleucus I won him five hundred war elephants, founding the Mauryan tradition of armored cavalry and thundering tusked ranks that would awe the ancient world for generations. In old age he laid down power for his son, embraced the ascetic path of Jainism, and is said to have ended his life through a quiet fast — a conqueror who chose stillness over the throne he had built.

On the Battlefield

Chandragupta rides as Cavalry, a tank who anchors the vanguard and shields those who fight at his side. Heavily armored and stubborn against harm, he stands where the line would otherwise break, drawing the worst of the enemy onto himself. His signature charge crashes into the foe ahead while raising the guard of nearby heroes, and the aura he carries lets fellow riders share his hardened resilience. He is no slayer of armies but the high stone wall before them — the founder who keeps a Lord's cavalry standing when lesser ranks would fall.
