Cinder & Crowns: The Age Between Empires

The golden age has ebbed, and crowns lie scattered across the fields — you have come to pick one up.

The Moment the Story Begins

This is an age that looks stable and is quietly rotting.

After long wars, the continent's kingdoms and city-states settled into a fragile balance. The trade routes of the Old Empires still run, treasuries are not yet empty, scholars still write of past glories. On the surface, order holds.

Beneath it, resources run dry. Trade networks snap link by link, mines grow thin, cities fall silent. Everything that once made a nation rich — land, institutions, trade routes, knowledge, the deeds of heroes — is slipping from its old masters and scattering across the continent.

The Old Empires are collapsing faster than any chronicler predicted. The old order can no longer hold; the new has not been born. This vacuum belongs to the ambitious, the heirs, and the adventurers.

The Golden City: The Legend Beneath Everything

In every tale of collapse, one name keeps surfacing — the Golden City.

One symbol across every era and every people: where wealth, power, and glory converge. Perhaps it is real, hidden in a distant continent. Perhaps it is only a metaphor, woven by generations of chroniclers, merchants, and wandering poets.

Legend says countless veins of gold run beneath its continent. Legend says it keeps the last complete record of every fallen empire — find it, and you will know how the world came to this, and who should write the next age.

Explorers now return claiming ancient ruins hold clues to it. The true heart of that wealth remains hidden in unknown lands.

Your Place in the Story

You are no spectator.

You arrive as a new heir to a city on the edge of collapse. Bandits prowl beyond the walls; Rebels stir within. The markets stand empty, the throne gathers dust, and the last lord is dead, fled, or simply gone.

Your first task is not to unite the continent or seek the Golden City. It is to pull this city back from the brink — drive off the Bandits, put down the Rebels, restore order.

The moment you are crowned Lord upon the ruins, you do more than claim a city. You rekindle a fire from the cinders — the last flame of an older world. That is why your crown is called the Cinder Crown. It is no heirloom from your fathers: you lifted it from the embers and crowned yourself.

What Lies Ahead

Becoming Lord is only the beginning.

The world has entered the Age of Exploration. Ruined ancient cities, strategic resource strongholds, trade lanes, veins of ore — the wealth of the Old Empires lies scattered, waiting for new rulers. Every dead city may hide a lost epic; every abandoned route may reignite a region.

You will not be the only one who sees it. Other Lords — human players and NPC powers alike — are rising. Some will be allies, some rivals; some will betray you at your weakest, others will pull you back as you sink.

Every road points toward the Golden City. Whoever finds its trail first may raise a new order upon the ruins of the Old Empires.
