Richard I

The Lionheart

The crusader-king who breaks armor and charges first — the blade every new Lord learns to fight beside.

History

Richard I (1157-1199), Plantagenet King of England, earned the name Lionheart for a reign spent almost entirely in the saddle and the war-camp. He was one of the chief commanders of the Third Crusade, and at the Battle of Arsuf in 1191 he met Saladin in the open field and threw back his charge. The two adversaries later came to terms, winning safe passage for pilgrims to the holy sites — a rivalry of mutual respect that became one of the defining legends of the age of chivalry. In 1199, while besieging the castle of Châlus, Richard was struck by a crossbow bolt and died of the wound. From that day "Lionheart" has stood as a byword for raw courage and martial valor, a king remembered less for governance than for the ferocity he carried onto every battlefield.

On the Battlefield

Richard leads from the front as an Infantry hero of the Europe realm, built for raw damage with a knack for stripping an enemy's guard. His signature strike, Valiant Break, crashes into the foes massed before him, shattering their armor so every blow that follows lands deeper — a vanguard who tears open the line before pouring his strength through the gap. With a critical-leaning talent and a finishing sword-stroke held in reserve, he is a pure burst threat. Fittingly, he is also the first hero most players ever command: in the early guided campaign, the Lionheart leads the opening assault, the first blade to charge for a new Lord.
